Voluntary carbon market
Simplifying investments in climate development projects
Purchasing voluntary carbon offsets is a simple, safe and proven mechanism for organisations to achieve their environmental and social goals. We source globally recognised offsets, all of which are supported by rigorous methodologies that have been improved through over twenty years of scientific and political scrutiny. All of the projects we source have been registered with the leading voluntary offset standards – Gold Standard VERs, Voluntary Carbon Standard VCUs and the UNFCCC CERs.
Voluntary offset projects vary in type, but the projects we work with include the following:
- Rural electrification programmes that bring light and communication to remote areas;
- Clean cook stove projects that eliminate toxic indoor smoke and enable children to attend school rather than collect firewood; and
- Safe water projects that save children’s lives by reducing disease.
You can read more about specific projects on our project page.
Compliance carbon market
Clear advice for meeting your regulatory commitments, present and future
Governments appetite for regulated carbon markets are growing and EEM provides advisory and brokerage services for companies seeking to meet their compliance carbon obligations in Europe and beyond. The EU Emissions Trading Scheme (EU ETS) is the cornerstone of the European Union’s policy in relation to combating climate change and meet its international commitments on climate by reducing industrial and airline greenhouse gas emissions cost effectively. The first – and still by far the biggest – international system for trading greenhouse gas emission allowances, the EU ETS covers more than 11,000 power stations and industrial plants in 31 countries. In recent years it was expanded to cover emissions from aviation within the EEA, and over the next few years the number of installations covered is expected to double.
As part of our brokerage offering, EEM facilitates spot transactions in:
- Certified Emission Reductions (CERs)
- EU Allowances (EUAs)
- EU Aviation Allowances (EUAAs)
Renewable energy certificates
Meet ambitious emissions reductions targets through renewable energy procurement
Renewable Energy certificates are an investment that directly incentivizes clean technology investment in the regions where you operate. Sold separately from produced electricity, RECs allow electricity consumers to procure a verifiable claim to the environmental benefits associated with renewable energy generation. Today there is increasing demand for RECs to meet ambitious targets for energy procurement and, thanks to recent changes in the ways that companies report their emissions, accounting for RECs is easier than ever. In many cases RECs are the ideal tool for reducing Scope 2 footprint and for clients that wish to proceed, EEM is ready to handle the issuance and transfer of certificates on their behalf.
